Spelling and Basic Facts.

Here's some suggestions for learning both basic facts and spelling words at home.  Children learn in different ways so be creative and don't stick to the same way each time.

Maths
  1. Learn a few each night - not the whole lot!
  2. Flash cards - write the problem on a piece of card and the answer on the back
  3. Sing them
  4. Writing out - but train the brain to remember the answer
  5. Magnetic Numbers on the fridge  - make one problem then muddle it up and make it again and again
  6. Write the problem out on card - fairly large and cut up the bits  and remake several times.
  7. Write them in a sand box
  8. Write them out in colours
  9. Look for patterns in the answers
  10. Write the problems out on cards with the answers - cut the answers up and match up - turn them all over and play memory
  11. Blog and internet sights
Spelling
  1. Learn a few each night - divide the weeks words by the number of days you are doing homework
  2. Magnetic letters - make the word and rearrange it several times
  3. Sing it   t - h - a - t   spells that
  4. Write the words on cards - cut up and rearrange
  5. Underline the Sounds Alive components   eg  found
  6. Write the words out in colours
  7. Write the words out in fancy lettering
  8. Type them out
  9. Write the word in a sand box -    a shoe box lid filled with sand
  10. Paint the words, Paint the words with water on the concrete.
